I made this piece in an observational drawing class. I was asked to create an 18-inch by 24-inch charcoal drawing with a subject matter of my choosing. Working from photographs, I drew different angles of Chauncey Bradley’s statue Undine Rising from the Waters. I thought the statue’s likeness would translate well to charcoal. I captured multiple angles of the statue to make the composition more dynamic. Finally, I added the butterflies to create visual interest.
