I made this piece in a figure drawing class. I was asked to create an 18-inch by 24-inch charcoal portrait from a reference of my choosing. Working from a photograph, I drew Frankenstein’s monster from James Whale’s 1931 film Frankenstein. Rather than a traditional black charcoal drawing on white paper, I chose to do white charcoal on black paper, as this is something I had been working with in class and thought would work well with the reference I chose.
