I made this piece in a printmaking class. I was asked to make a broadside with printed text via wood type. Broadsides tend to be used to share an important message, so I decided to print a quote that speaks to how I feel about my identity as a transgender person. “In this magical act of transformation I recognize myself again” is a quote of Susan Stryker’s from her performance essay My Words to Victor Frankenstein above the Village of Chamounix - Performing Transgender Rage. While most of the text is black, I chose to print the word “transformation” in light pink, light blue, and white, as these are the colors of the transgender flag. The mix of fonts and text size was done to give the piece stylization and visual interest.
